The Liu Family Mansion was built during the reign of Emperor Jiaqing of the Qing Dynasty and was selected as one of the one hundred important historical buildings in Taiwan. It is also named Tuanyuan Hall (meaning “together”) because the buildings surrounded the main hall in a circle with Bagua Mountain behind them and Babao Canal and the pond in front of them. The pond , with an underground water source that has never run out, looks like a crescent moon, so it was also called Crescent Pond.
